The Crime Statistics Agency has commenced public operations from today, and is now the agency responsible for reporting recorded crime statistics for Victoria.
From today, releases of recorded crime statistics to the community will no longer be produced by Victoria Police and queries for information should be directed to the CSA in the first instance.
Chief Statistician, Fiona Dowsley said that significant work had been done by the CSA to make information available and accessible to the public through their website.
'We have been working on providing information that tells a story, and helps inform decision making'.
'Our aim is to release information about crime in Victoria that helps policy makers and the community make decisions in a way that people understand', she said.
The Agency also has a research and evaluation team, who will conduct in depth research into emerging crime trends in Victoria.
The CSA will release its first set of quarterly statistics in March 2015. For more information on future releases please see the Release calendar.
