Key Figures: Year ending September 2024

State wide figures
1. The number of criminal incidents recorded by Victoria Police in the year to 30 September 2024 was 431,683, up 15.0% from 375,460 incidents recorded in the same period last year.   
2. The number of offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year 30 September 2024 was 578,762. This is up 13.4% from 510,226 offences recorded in the same period last year.
3. Alleged offender incidents increased 14.9% to 181,759 in the year to 30 September 2024, up from 158,245.
4. Person victim reports increased in the year to 30 September 2024, up 15.1% (32,833) to 250,918 person victim reports.
5. Family incidents increased in the year to 30 September 2024, up 9.5% from 93,232 to 102,082.
6. Alleged offender incidents with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status increased 31.6% (5,192) to 21,625 in the year to 30 September 2024.
7. In the year to 30 September 2024 the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status of those involved in Family incident increased for Affected family members (up 16.2% to 6,578) while Other parties increased (up 23.0% to 8,443).

Criminal Incidents
The highest criminal incident rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 30 September 2024 were:
1. Melbourne (16,250.9 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 9.8%)
2. Yarra (11,829.5 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 17.7%)
3. Latrobe (11,742.9 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 6.8%)
4. Mildura (10,912.2 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 7.1%)
5. Maribyrnong (9,611.5 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 20.7%).
 

Recorded Offences
The highest recorded offence rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 30 September 2024 were:
1. Melbourne (22,321.5 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 12.0%)
2. Latrobe (16,058.6 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 5.5%)
3. Mildura (14,626.2 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 6.1%).
4. Yarra (14,401.7 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 13.1%)
5. Greater Shepparton (13,767.9 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 7.8%).
