State wide figures
- The number of criminal incidents recorded by Victoria Police in the year to 30 September 2023 was 376,482, up 9.8% from 342,904 incidents recorded in the same period last year.
- The number of offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year 30 September 2023 was 510,415. This is up 7.6% from 474,145 offences recorded in the same period last year.
- Alleged offender incidents increased 12.9% to 167,830 in the year to 30 September 2023, up from 148,694.
- Victim reports increased in the year to 30 September 2023, up 12.8% (33,916) to 298,495 victim reports.
- Family incidents increased in the year to 30 September 2023, up 1.9% from 91,489 to 93,237.
- Alleged offender incidents with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status increased 23.9% (3,236) to 16,786 in the year to 30 September 2023.
- In the year to 30 September 2023 the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status of those involved in Family incident increased for Affected family members (up 4.9% to 5,503) while Other parties increased (up 6.2% to 6,605).

The highest criminal incident rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 30 September 2023 were:
- Melbourne (14,908.7 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 3.4%)
- Latrobe (11,027.8 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 12.9%)
- Mildura (10,241.8 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 13.4%)
- Yarra (9,987.3 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 2.8%)
- Greater Dandenong (8,784.6 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 17.5%).
Recorded Offences
The highest recorded offence rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 30 September 2023 were:
- Melbourne (20,041.9 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 5.9%)
- Latrobe (15,233.4 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 8.5%)
- Mildura (13,824.4 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 8.5%).
- Horsham (12,996.5 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 13.5%)
- Greater Shepparton (12,689.9 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 4.2%).
