State wide figures

  1. The number of criminal incidents recorded by Victoria Police in the year to 31 March 2024 was 396,238, up 10.1% from 359,807 incidents recorded in the same period last year. 
  2. The number of offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year 31 March 2024 was 535,673. This is up 7.9% from 496,412 offences recorded in the same period last year.
  3. Alleged offender incidents increased 9.4% to 171,397 in the year to 31 March 2024, up from 156,602.
  4. Person victim reports increased in the year to 31 March 2024, up 10.0% (20,991) to 229,878 person victim reports.
  5. Family incidents increased in the year to 31 March 2024, up 3.1% from 93,085 to 95,982.
  6. Alleged offender incidents with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status increased 21.1% (3,197) to 18,340 in the year to 31 March 2024.
  7. In the year to 31 March 2024 the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status of those involved in Family incident increased for Affected family members (up 8.2% to 5,930) while Other parties increased (up 10.8% to 7,254).

Criminal Incidents
The highest criminal incident rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 31 March 2024 were:

  1. Melbourne (14,379.7 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 1.9%).
  2. Latrobe (11,225.0 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 9.1%).
  3. Mildura (10,530.5 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 9.8%).
  4. Yarra (10,443.9 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 6.6%).
  5. Port Philip (8,884.0 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 0.8%).

Recorded Offences
The highest recorded offence rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 31 March 2024 were:

  1. Melbourne (19,932.2 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 2.8%).
  2. Latrobe (15,239.0 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 3.1%).
  3. Mildura (14,204.7 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 7.6%).
  4. Horsham (13,530.9 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 10.3%).
  5. Yarra (13,027.0 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 5.4%).
