• The number of criminal incidents recorded by Victoria Police in the year to 31 March 2020 was 409,841, up 6.1% from 386,411 incidents recorded in the same period last year. 
• The number of offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year to 31 March 2020 was 542,626. This is up 5.3% from 515,531 offences recorded in the same period last year.
• Alleged offender incidents increased 3.5% to 177,882 in the year to 31 March 2020, up from 171,923.
• Victim reports increased in the year to 31 March 2020 by 8.9% (26,597) to 326,403 victim reports.
• Family incidents increased in the year to 31 March 2020, up 5.8% from 81,243 to 85,923.

The five Local Government Areas with the highest criminal incident rates in the year ending March 2020 were:

• Melbourne (14,368.5 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 3.2%)
• Latrobe (13,303.8 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 1.1%)
• Yarra (11,102.7 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 0.8%)
• Mildura (9,964.7 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 1.1%)
• Greater Shepparton (9,567.7 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 2.1%)

Recorded Offences

The five Local Government Areas with the highest recorded offence rates in the year ending March 2020 were:

• Melbourne (19,346.6 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 2.7%)
• Latrobe (18,308.4 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 5.4%)
• Yarra (13,606.0 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 2.7%)
• Mildura (13,333.9 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 0.9%)
• Greater Shepparton (13,028.0 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 3.1%)
