State wide figures

  1. The number of criminal incidents recorded by Victoria Police in the year to 30 June 2023 was 371,691, up 9.3% from 340,219 incidents recorded in the same period last year. 
  2. The number of offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year 30 June 2023 was 506,408. This is up 7.9% from 469,149 offences recorded in the same period last year.
  3. Alleged offender incidents increased 9.8% to 167,394 in the year to 30 June 2023, up from 152,438.
  4. Victim reports increased in the year to 30 June 2023, up 14.2% (36,372) to 292,711 victim reports.
  5. Family incidents increased in the year to 30 June 2023, up 2.8% from 90,540 to 93,115.
  6. Alleged offender incidents with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status increased 22.3% (2,958) to 16,230 in the year to 30 June 2023.
  7. In the year to 30 June 2023 the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status of those involved in Family incident increased for Affected family members (up 6.0% to 5,464) while Other parties increased (up 4.8% to 6,468).
  8. Unique victims increased in the year to 30 June 2023, up 12.9% to 224,169 victims.
  9. Unique alleged offenders increased 1.8% to 80,734 in the year to 30 June 2023, up from 79,283.

Criminal Incidents
The highest criminal incident rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 30 June 2023 were:

  1. Melbourne (14,886.2 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 6.4%)
  2. Latrobe (10,577.3 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 7.7%)
  3. Yarra (10,467.4 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 10.8%)
  4. Mildura (9,949.2 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 10.4%)
  5. Port Phillip (9,052.6 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 2.6%).

 

Recorded Offences
The highest recorded offence rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 30 June 2023 were:

  1. Melbourne (20,139.2 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 7.7%)
  2. Latrobe (14,921.2 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 7.9%)
  3. Mildura (13,557.8 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 6.8%).
  4. Greater Shepparton (13,299.4 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 10.8%)
  5. Yarra (13,232.0 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 1.9%).
