The Crime Statistics Agency has today released its recorded crime statistics for Victoria for the year ending 30 September 2016.
In the year ending 30 September 2016 there were 333,214 victim reports and 176,595 alleged offender incidents recorded by Victoria Police, with both counts increasing over the past 12 months.
Crime Statistics Agency Chief Statistician Fiona Dowsley said that the majority of offenders were adults.
‘In the year to September 2016, only 12% of offenders were aged between 10 and 17, and more than half of all offenders were aged between 18 and 34’ Ms Dowsley said.
The recorded crime statistics also show that there were 543,315 offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year to September 2016, up 11.6% compared to the same period last year. The crime rate was 8,975.4 offences per 100,000 people, an increase of 9.4%.
There were 78,819 family related incidents recorded in the year to September 2016, up by 8.9% compared to the same time last year.
